Getting Started With
Family Wealth Management

At Family Wealth Management, we have a holistic process that not only ensures that we would be a mutual fit, but also provides a comprehensive, long-term solution to guide your ongoing financial planning process.

Essentially, it consists of five easy steps:

1. Contact Family Wealth Management

The first thing we need to do is get to know one another. It is as simple as picking up the phone or sending us an email, both of which you can do right now by clicking here.

After a preliminary phone call with Marty Higgins, we can quickly determine if Family Wealth Management can be of assistance to you, and if so, we’ll want to schedule an Introductory Meeting.

2. Schedule an Introductory Meeting

If we decide to meet, Family Wealth Management will hold an Introductory Meeting with you at absolutely no cost to you. This meeting will allow us to gain a higher level understanding of your finances, your need for a financial planner, your concerns and goals and what you hope to accomplish through a relationship with Family Wealth Management. All of this will help us evaluate if we are a good match for you. And, of course, you will have the important opportunity to learn more about our firm, review samples of our work and question us on our expertise, philosophy and more.

3. Decide on engagement and initiate data collection

If you decide to engage Family Wealth Management, we will need to collect as much information about your finances as possible. We will want to understand you—your goals, your dreams and your concerns. We will ask you to complete either a short questionnaire or a longer version, provide us with copies of virtually all of your financial documents (i.e., tax returns, investment and banking statements, insurance policies, employee benefits statements, key business agreements and personal wills and/or trusts). Next we will spend a lot of time asking questions. We will spend time checking the accuracy of data and prioritizing the issues that are most important to you.

All of the data we accumulate from our meetings, discussions and the information you provide will allow us to develop a robust analysis of your situation and a preliminary start at creating core recommendations.

4. Begin the Financial Planning Process

As our planning work proceeds, we’ll refine and review recommendations on all financial matters of concern to you. Through a series of meetings, we’ll focus on specific, important topics to ensure that every detail is adequately covered and that you are comfortable with understanding the issues involved. Each meeting will conclude with a list of clear action items and a date for completion.

5. Completing the Financial Planning Process

It is our belief that the financial planning process is never complete. Life changes and circumstances change as well. Your goals will change and new issues will arise. As a result, adjustments to the plan need to be regularly made. New analyses need to be done. Similar to athletic coaching, simply identifying a plan and giving the directions doesn’t necessarily make for a better athlete and by itself never perfects the talent. We look to enter into a long-term relationship with you, providing you guidance and help along the way so that as things do change, you will continue to make the most effective decisions possible.
